Mother's Healing Retreat:

The shock and trauma of suddenly losing a beloved child or husband is overwhelming. Each birthday, holiday, and family meal brings memories of the person who is missing. Dealing with the grief and the changed family is a very painful task. Dealing with the pain alone is even more devastating. The Mothers' Healing Retreat brings together women whose husbands or children have been killed in terrorist attacks, and nurtures them physically, emotionally, and spiritually so they know they are not alone.

At the Mothers' Healing Retreat, women learn to understand and manage pain. They are given strategies for self-awareness and self-transformation and return home with tools for healing themselves and their families. Bereaved mothers are provided with a safe and supportive environment where they share their sorrow and learn how to cope with and manage their overpowering feelings of loss and pain. Professional grief counselors staff the retreats and focus on revealing strength and hope within each woman.

The women who participate in the healing programs form strong bonds with each other. Program follow up includes weekly phone counseling by a professional grief counselor and monthly support meetings. Many mothers say that the phone calls and meetings give them the strength to live more fully.

They return to their families with more hope, more strength, and the ability to share their feelings more fully.

"The pain is mine, but I am not alone. This gives me strength to go on."
Sarah, a mother who took part in the program
